Un Titolo  di Campione Europeo 2008 e un titolo di Campione del Mondo 2008 non erano abbastanza per Maris Strombergs.
L'atleta della Latvia non si è accontentato e  ha vinto anche l'ORO alle Olimpiadi nella BMX che era anche il primo ORO per la sua nazione in queste Olimpiadi 2008.

Senza dubbio, Maris, era uno dei favoriti al titolo di Campione Olimpico insieme a Mike Day degli Stati Uniti.
Ad eccezione di 1 quarto di finale, nel quale probabilmente ha soltanto controllato la qualificazione, Maris ha fatto piazza pulita vincendo tutte le gare.

It was a great day at the “office” for Maris Strombergs from Latvia.
The Latvian riders have put there country on te map in the last few years.
With Maris’ outstanding performance this year Latvia is without a doubt one of Worlds dominating BMX countries.
For Maris it all started at the Christmas Classic in December where Maris won day 2.
And also the Supercorss Series have been going well with a 2nd place in Australia and a 3rd in Denmark.
